  1. Ria Jones says:

    Hyma
Thank you so much for all your help and compassion. That is so rare and I really appreciate it. I realized yesterday that my younger self, my child is so wounded from emotional neglect, judgemental environment and lack of support. The guided imagery was a double edge sword, good to see and feel so I can realize and so painful. It feels overwhelming and I am struggling to find a place to start to wrap my head around all this stuff in my heart. The “judge” does not know the compassion the child needs. How do I start to understand, forgive, nurture rebuild that 5 year old child so the 57 year old can be happy and at peace.

  2. hyma says:

    Dear Ria,
I am sorry for the pain and overwhelm you are experiencing. As you have rightly said, the mindfulness practices help us to really see where we are. They do not create the pain, but make us fully aware of it. The more aware we are, the more choices we have.

Don’t we want to feel the pain when our hand is in fire? When we know what is happening with us, we can do something about it. Most of the time we go through life, trying to ignore the pain by distracting ourselves and keeping ourselves busy.

This journey of freedom from pain actually starts with recognizing where we are, what is going on with us now. Then we make a choice of where we want to be, how we want to feel, our destination. Once we choose our destination, the process becomes simple. It is simple but we need to consistently choose peace over pain, love over ego.

We have been learning different mindfulness practices over the past four classes so you can pick one of them that feels good to you at this time. I encourage you to practice your favorite technique of awareness for just ten minutes a day. This would help strengthen your ability to see yourself as the energy, the awareness that is separate from your thoughts and feelings. Once you realize that you are the spiritual energy, the resistance goes down and you can release these painful emotions. You would be open to let them come and go without being attached to them.

The mindfulness practice gets easier with repetition. You build this mind muscle just like you would build any other muscle with exercise. Let us be patient with ourselves as we develop this skill that can give us ultimate freedom from our emotional pain.

Also know that our next class focuses on developing synergy between these aspects of ourselves, especially with our inner judge.

In the meantime, you start to love and have fun with your 5-year-old inner child by really paying attention to her needs and wants, just as you would to your 5-year-old grand child. Let this relationship grow naturally by you consistently being there in a loving and supportive way. Trust builds with time. The reward is worth it.
